Make a word search for your class
Type a topic or paste your word list. WordsAI builds the puzzle in a few seconds, and it prints on one page.
How it works
- Pick a topic, or paste the words you're teaching: a spelling list, this week's vocabulary, the terms from a unit.
- Choose a difficulty.
- Print it, or share a link so students can play on a phone, tablet or laptop.
Difficulty levels
- Easy
- Words run across, down and diagonally, never backwards. Good for younger students.
- Medium
- Words run in all eight directions, including backwards.
Hard and Expert change how a puzzle plays online. Hard hides the word list while students play, and Expert adds a hidden poison word that ends the game if they find it. On paper, both print the same as Medium.
Grid sizes
- Big letters
- Up to 12 words on a grid no bigger than 10 by 10. The letters print large and are easy to tap on a tablet, which suits younger students.
- Standard
- Up to 30 words on a grid up to 15 by 15.
- Large list
- Up to 45 words on a grid up to 20 by 20. The letters get small, so these work better printed than played on a phone.
If a word on your list doesn't fit, WordsAI tells you which one and why before the puzzle starts. You can switch to a bigger size, play without it, or change your list.
Printing
Every puzzle fits on one letter-size page, with the topic at the top, then the grid and the word list. Print it or save it as a PDF. You can add a second page with the answer key, where every word is marked on the grid.
Word lists are checked
WordsAI checks the word lists you type in for profanity and other inappropriate words before it makes a puzzle. Lists generated from a topic go through a profanity filter too.
Accounts
You don't need an account to make, play or print puzzles. Saving a puzzle gives you a link to share with students, and you can save one without signing in. To save more, up to 50, sign in with your email. There's no password: we email you a sign-in link. Puzzles saved without an account last 90 days. Puzzles in your account stay until you delete them.
Ready-made puzzles
Our curators pick the daily puzzles. The ones that have already run are in the puzzle archive, free to play or print.
