What WordsAI keeps, why, for how long, and who else sees it.

The short version
WordsAI has no ads, no tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics or tracking. We don't sell anything about you or share it for marketing. You can play, make and print puzzles without an account. We do count plays, so we can see which puzzles people like, but those counts aren't linked to you.
Who we are
WordsAI is made by Peyer Media LLC, a Minnesota company, at PO Box 1053, Chanhassen, MN 55317. For anything about your privacy, email privacy@wordsai.app.
If you don't sign in
Our server sees your IP address, as every website's does. We use it only for security and to limit abuse, and we never store it as it is. To count requests per hour, we store a one-way code made from it and delete that code within about a day.
Without an account you can save one puzzle. To keep track of that, we store a one-way code made from your IP address and a few browser details (such as browser type and language) for 90 days.
A puzzle you save keeps its topic, words and grid for 90 days, unless you add it to an account. Anyone with its link can open it, and its topic shows in link previews. We can see saved puzzles too.
When a game starts or ends, we record anonymous numbers: plays per day and per topic, time taken, score and difficulty. We also keep a list of up to 50 recent finished games (none older than 90 days), with the time, topic, difficulty, length, score, and whether the puzzle was solved. None of this includes a name, email address or IP address. We delete a topic's numbers once nobody has played it for 90 days.
When you ask for words on a topic, we keep the topic and its words for 30 days, so the next person who asks for the same topic gets them quickly. We don't record who asked. The Surprise me button picks only from our own topic list and past daily puzzles, never from topics people type.
Your settings, streak and games in progress stay in your browser's storage on your device. Clearing your browser data for wordsai.app removes them.
If you sign in
Accounts are for teachers, parents, and anyone 13 or older. There's no password. You give us your email address and we email you a sign-in link. The link works once and expires after 15 minutes, and we delete our record of it within a day. We use your email address only to sign you in.
Your account holds your email address (and a one-way code made from it, which we use to find your account), when you created it and last signed in, the puzzles you saved (up to 50), and how many puzzles you've made. You stay signed in on that device for 7 days. Saved puzzles stay until you delete them, and your account stays until you ask us to delete it.
AI and word lists
To suggest words for a topic, we send the topic to Anthropic's Claude. If that doesn't work, we send it to Cloudflare Workers AI instead.
Before we make a puzzle from a word list you typed, Anthropic checks the list for offensive words. Lists generated from a topic go through a profanity filter, and Anthropic checks them too if you save the puzzle.
These requests contain only the topic or the words. They don't include your name, email address, IP address or account. Anthropic and Cloudflare handle them under their own privacy policies (Anthropic, Cloudflare). Please don't put personal information, like a child's full name, in a topic or word list.
Companies that handle data for us
We use three service providers, only to run WordsAI:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores its data, and Cloudflare Workers AI is the backup for word suggestions. Cloudflare's technical logs record each request (the page asked for, the time, and connection details such as your IP address) and are deleted within 7 days. We don't set any cookies, but if Cloudflare needs to check that a visitor isn't a bot, it can set a security cookie of its own.
- Resend sends the sign-in emails, so it receives your email address and the link (Resend's privacy policy).
- Anthropic suggests words and checks word lists, as described above.
Nobody else gets your data. We don't sell it or share it for advertising.
Kids and schools
Kids can play and print without an account, and we don't ask them for names, email addresses or anything else about themselves. Their IP address reaches our server like anyone's. We use it only for security and to keep the site running, and we store it only as a one-way code: deleted within about a day for rate limits, or kept for 90 days if they save a puzzle without an account. Cloudflare's logs, which include it, are deleted within 7 days.
What kids type into the maker goes to our AI providers, as described above. We keep a typed topic in our word cache for 30 days, and in our play numbers until nobody has played it for 90 days. If they save the puzzle, it's kept for 90 days and anyone with the link can open it. So they shouldn't type personal information.
If you think a child under 13 has made an account, email privacy@wordsai.app and we'll delete it.
Your choices
